How Mobile Screening Took Eric’s Business to the Next Level
Case Study
Midwest Crushing and Recycling is an asphalt and concrete recycling contractor based in Du Quoin, IL
Eric Bruno focuses on producing clean, spec-grade material by using mobile crushing and screening equipment. With a hands-on approach and a commitment to high-quality output, Eric helps contractors and municipalities recycle road materials directly back into the mix—saving costs, reducing waste, and supporting more sustainable infrastructure projects.
Trying To Crush Fines is Killing Production
Recycling asphalt isn’t like working with concrete. It’s full of sticky fines that do nothing but choke your crusher and grind production to a halt. When Eric started processing RAP, he figured the crusher’s built-in screen would be enough to get the job done. But once he started running asphalt at scale, the reality set in fast: without pre-screening, he was constantly clearing clogs, wasting fuel, and watching the clock instead of moving material. It wasn’t until Eric took a job with 33,000 tons to process and it became obvious: “if I wanted to stay competitive, it was time to get serious about screening.”

At that point, Eric’s struggles were clear and constant:
- His Crusher gets clogged frequently with fines and sticky asphalt
- Downtime is spent chiseling and clearing jams
- Deadlines are tough to hit
- Constant and unnecessary wear on the equipment
- Difficulty delivering clean, spec-ready asphalt
Adding the Missing Puzzle Piece
Adding a mobile scalping screening plant completely transformed Eric's operation. By removing the fines before the crusher, he significantly reduced downtime and wear on the equipment. Instead of battling constant clogs and slow throughput, he could focus on crushing the “meat and taters” — the larger, high-value material the impact crusher is designed for.
With this change of his fleet, it not only made his job easier, it boosted his daily production volumes and he can deliver consistently clean, spec-ready asphalt that customers demand. The scalper opened so many doors for Eric that he could find his niche.

Our Scalping Screens are Packed with features to keep your crusher humming and material hitting spec every day

Avoid unnecessary wear on the crusher
Remove fines and only let the bigger sized material through the crusher will cut down downtime.

Easy to move
Use the same trailers you use to move a mid-size excavator.

Increased Throughput
With less junk slowing your production down, you move serious tonnage in the same timeframe.

RM 100GO! Tracked Impact CrusherX
The RM 100GO! is fed with the oversized material that runs off the scalper and crushes the material down to a 5/8- RAP that is mixed with the fines from the screen. The Impact Crusher is equipped with a screen attachment and working in a closed loop to recirculate oversized material back into the hopper and produce a defined material in a single pass.

RM HS7500MX
The mobile scalper is being loaded with the excavator and only feeds the crusher with oversized material.

High Quality State RAPX
Eric's set-up is producing 5/8- RAP that is free of petromat.
