First RUBBLE MASTER in Cyprus
LIMASSOL, CYPRUS. With the experience gained from numerous demolition projects that had previously been handled with hired crushers, it was last year that Costas Papacostas thought about starting out in the recycling business himself. The Managing Director of an established construction company in Limassol visited the Austrian market leader for mobile crushers in the compact class in summer 2008. It was shortly afterwards that he decided to invest in a high-performance, mobile RUBBLE MASTER combination consisting of an RM100 impact crusher and TS3600 double-deck screen.
Costas Papacostas & Sons Ltd. is a highly regarded Cypriot construction company based in Limassol with an appropriate fleet of lorries, excavators and wheel loaders. "There has been an increasing number of excavation jobs in recent years and we have also taken on demolition projects from time to time," explains founder and Managing Director Costas Papacostas. "This gave us the idea of starting out in this lucrative line of business ourselves with our own crusher. Not only do we have to handle material that accumulates on our own job sites, Cyprus also has tipping fees and we can help other companies to save money by letting us recycle their material.”
This was what prompted the company to search for a suitable crusher. The requirements were more or less clear from previous projects in which they had used various hired machines. "We were convinced that we needed a high-performance impact crusher that could produce high-value aggregate," explains the construction specialist, "with a throughput of up to 200 tons per hour. It was also important for the crusher to be able to process a variety of material from different job sites: broken asphalt and concrete from road-building projects, steel reinforced concrete from demolition projects, general rubble and also excavated material."
Costas Papacostas contacted the RUBBLE MASTER representative in Nicosia, Alexander Dimitriou & Sons Ltd. It was shortly after this that he, together with customer adviser Achilleas Karakannas, visited the RUBBLE MASTER headquarters in Linz, Austria, to see for himself the professionalism and high degree of customer orientation of the manufacturer and inventor of Compact Recycling. It was also here that the decision fell in favour of the tracked combination featuring an RM100 crusher and TS3600 final screen.
The high-performance RM100 delivers 200 t/h homogeneous, cubic aggregate from a variety of feed materials. The dynamic automation and optimised crusher hammer geometry ensure top throughput continuity. Any metal parts are fully separated from the mineral materials inside the impact crusher and removed by the generously scaled magnetic separator. The crusher is operated conveniently and safely from the loader – with only one operator necessary, thanks to practical remote control for crushing and manoeuvring operations. Diesel consumption at only 20 to 22 l/h makes the RM100 extremely cost-efficient in operation. Weighing in at only 28 tons the crusher can be transported quickly and easily to any job site without any special transport requirements, thus increasing application opportunities. The system has been cost-optimised from the ground up and offers impressive service life, long maintenance intervals and optimum ease of operation – including, for example, blockage removal at the push of a button and quick-release connections for fast changeover times.
The RUBBLE MASTER TS3600 is just as flexible in terms of material handling and is likewise strong on throughput up to 200 t/h: a crawler-gear-mounted double-deck linear oscillation screen for the cost-efficient production of high-quality, defined grain sizes. The TS3600 is perfectly tuned to feeding with the RM100: the feed hopper can be folded up hydraulically so the crushed grain is conveyed direct from the discharge belt to the upper screen deck. The RUBBLE MASTER screen is also operated using remote control from the loader and maintenance is easy. Weighing only 15.5 tons, the compact TS3600 is also easy to move around – just like the RM100.
Positive results one year after starting out in recycling
A service engineer from the manufacturer RUBBLE MASTER was also present at the extensive commissioning training in September 2008. The service engineers of Alexander Dimitriou & Sons Ltd. were also updated on the RUBBLE MASTER product range at the same time. RUBBLE MASTER is known for looking after its customers exceptionally thoroughly throughout the entire lifetime of the machine, with highly trained regional sales and service partners – known as RUBBLE MASTER Lifetime Support. Costas Papacostas has also been able to witness this first hand ever since: "For us, fast spare part supplies through an experienced regional dealer were a crucial factor in making our decision to buy," says the entrepreneur, outlining his reasons. "After all, the availability of the machines is of extreme economic significance. We are fully satisfied with RUBBLE MASTER and Alexander Dimitriou & Sons Ltd!"
So far the machines have been used mostly at the company's recycling yard. Tens of thousands of tons (sorted) are currently in storage here and processed on request to meet requirements. The yard is a hive of activity. High-value aggregate, destined for use on the company's own sites or sold at a profit, is collected from here. At the same time, new deliveries of material from demolition and excavation work arrive. In the case of some projects, the company decides whether to recycle the material on site or have it sent on to the recycling yard.
The most recent job handled by the mobile RUBBLE MASTER RM100 with TS3600 is a good example of this: concrete from a demolition project was crushed down to 0/50 mm in the impact crusher. The crushed grain was passed direct from the crusher to the screen box of the high-performance TS3600 and screened down to two final aggregate sizes: 0/8 mm was used for backfilling in utility work and the 8/32 mm coarse grain was used as a cover layer in a road-building project. Any oversized grain was fed back into the crusher for it to be crushed again. Yet another advantage of their mobility: the two track-mobile RUBBLE MASTER machines can be set up so a screen belt can convey the oversized grain direct to the vibro channel of the crusher - without any additional work.
After just one year, recycling newcomer Costas Papacostas is more than satisfied with his decision in favour of the mobile RUBBLE MASTER Compact Recyclers from Austria: "The machines are used to capacity and earn good profits. The manufacturer's specifications, especially in terms of both the promised throughput and also the costs, have proved to be true in day-to-day operation! The RM100 is remarkable when it comes to consumption: it needs only 22 l/h of diesel – at the most – for 200 t/h. Plus we find ourselves travelling more and more to job sites with the machines for on-site recycling. This adds to the range of applications. We are thoroughly satisfied and can see how right we were to take the decision to start out in mobile recycling as a new line of business!"
